We are going to make completing your NFPA 70E: Insulated PPE Pre-Use Inspection Checklist form as easy as possible.

Instructions: This checklist is for the visual and manual inspection of insulated PPE by the user before each use. If any item receives a FAIL, the PPE must be immediately removed from service for cleaning, repair, or destruction. Do not use damaged or out-of-date electrical PPE. Rubber Insulating Gloves - Check Voltage Class: Confirm the glove class rating (e.g., Class 00, 0, 1, 2) is appropriate for the voltage of the task.
Rubber Insulating Gloves - Check Dielectric Test Date: Verify the in-service test date is current (typically within the last 6 months per ASTM F496).
Rubber Insulating Gloves - Visual Inspection (Surface): Visually inspect the entire outer and inner surface for: Cuts, holes, tears, or punctures Embedded objects (e.g., metal splinters, wood), Ozone damage (cracking or checking), Chemical damage (swelling, softening, hardening, stickiness)
Rubber Insulating Gloves - Air Inflation Test (Mandatory): Step 1: Roll the cuff tightly toward the fingers to trap air inside. Step 2: Squeeze the trapped air to inflate the glove. Step 3: Listen for escaping air and hold the glove near your face/cheek to feel for leaks.
Leather Protectors (for Rubber Gloves)- Visual Inspection: Inspect entire protector for: Holes, tears, or deep cuts that could compromise protection Embedded metal shavings or other sharp objects Excessive wear or damage from oil, grease, or chemicals (e.g., hardness, stiffness)
Leather Protectors (for Rubber Gloves)- Proper Sizing & Fit: Verify the protector is the correct size for the rubber glove and provides the required separation between the top of the protector cuff and the top of the rubber glove cuff (per ASTM F496/F696).
Insulating Sleeves/Blankets: Check current in-service dielectric test date (typically 12 months). Inspect for punctures, cuts, abrasions, or chemical damage.
Insulated Hand Tools: Inspect the tool's insulating material for cracks, nicks, or cuts. Check for any gaps in the insulation, especially near the working end. Ensure the insulation is clean and not contaminated with oil or grease.
